February Wrap Up

I managed to squeeze in 12 books to this shorty short month.

I decided to start adding my Goodreads stars here. Just to used used in general as an overall ranking. I’ll add some descriptions of what my stars mean – but in general:

1 star – nope. can’t even go there.

2 stars – meh. i liked a little bit about it. maybe i hated the story but loved the writing. or the other way around.

3 stars – good story. not something i’ll probably ever think about again. but ok.

4 stars – a great story. well worth the read. let’s talk about this one.

5 stars – amazing. i will tell everyone about this story. i will push the book to everyone i talk to. i won’t stop thinking about this one for awhile.

The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was was ironically a bit snoozy for me. An outbreak in a small college town cause people to fall asleep and not wake up. Not much happened – lots of unanswered questions, but cool idea!

Lovely Little Things by Maureen Joyce Connolly ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A woman’s car is stolen from a gas station with her two young daughters inside. What follows is the heartbreak of losing those girls, trying to find them, and what comes after. Riveting and heartbreaking and beautiful!

In Another Time by Jillian Cantor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A war prevents a German and a Jew from pursuing the love between them – but memory loss and secrets make it even more difficult! A stunning story with a bit of magic 🙂

Moloka’i by Alan Brennert ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Who knew that an infectious disease story would make me fall in love with a book! This book is incredible. A story of the human spirit, and it’s strength and resilience – a must read.

I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love her books but this one was not a favorite unfortunately. I disliked just about every character so it was really hard to connect to this one. It’s still a cute story and some fans will love it!

Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A really long end of humanity story where a disease ravages 99% of humanity. It flips from before the outbreak to after, and while I felt there were a LOT of unnecessary chapters, characters and plotlines – it was still a really good ‘end of the world’ story.

I’m Fine and Neither Are You by Camille Pagán ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Being a woman is HARD. There’s expectations upon expectations and your spirit can be crushed by the weight of keeping your home together, keeping your significant other happy, keeping your kids alive, keeping a job – the pressure can be paralyzing. The hardest thing of all, is to pretend like you’ve got all of your sh*t together.

The Lost Girls of Paris by Pam Jenoff ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Two words >>> Women Spies. Do need any other reason than to those two words to read this? Well, I don’t think you do because what could be more kick-a$$ than that, but I’ll give you more anyway because there are PLENTY of reasons!

A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Holy controversy Batman! This one was serious tug-of-war of mental and moral convictions for sure – my first (gasp!) Picoult novel – and I loved it. I loved that it forced you to listen to sides. To endure pain, even if it wasn’t something you accepted. And holy hell – the twists!

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh, Helen Hoang you naughty, naughty girl! I thought I was going to read a sweet little innocent love story, and hot damn! Did I get SO much more than I bargained for! I was rooting for the two main characters in this one, a shy awkward girl looking for help with men, from, who else – a man. But there was just too much sex in this for my liking. Don’t get me wrong – I like sex! I just felt like it diminished the main character a lot.

Forget You Know Me by Jessica Strawser ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ohhhh secrets. The kind of secrets that can bend and twist and turn a teeny, tiny veiled thing into a full blown nuclear bomb. Jessica Strawser has again, intricately built a twisty, complex labyrinth of emotions, pain, fear, guilt and secrets and then dropped the bomb on us once again. She makes it look so easy: to make lives look so very complicated, so real-life – and so insightful. And it explodes all over you in a mess of pieces you feverishly try to put together but cannot for the life of you figure what the heck is going on!

The Falconer by Dana Czapnik ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In love with this one. An insanely gorgeous coming of age story and a love story to the city of New York, all wrapped into one incredibly beautiful written story.
