Am I the only one that is NOT READY for December? I feel like I’m being punk’d. Like the hidden cameras are going to come out and someone’s going to say “Haha! We tricked you – it’s really still July!” Ahhhh…. wishful thinking.
So it’s a wrap on November and I’m late again getting this together 😆 but I did manage to read FOUR NonFiction November books! I typically read a total of ZERO nonfiction books in any given month – so clearly this is a huge win for me!
13 books… my top 2 standout favorites were:
✨ Anyone by Charles Soule
✨ Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton
Did I read any of your favorites? See anything on your TBR here?
November 2019 Reads:
Audiobooks 4 | EBooks 2 | Print 7
Bedside Manners by Heather Frimmer
A lovely story that gets you right in all the good feels. Read my full review here.
Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton
THIS BOOK. I just can’t. I want everyone to read it and I want at least 4 sequels please! This is such a unique and fun story. The main character is a crow. His name is Shit Turd and he’s going to save the world with his buddy Dennis the dog, after humanity falls to a zombie apocalypse. It is SO FUN.
Is There Still Sex in the City by Candace Bushnell
This was a fun one! Candace (of Sex in the City fame) can write anything and I’ll read it (or watch it!) It’s definitely one for a certain age group…. like mine (40ish) BUT I think anyone will enjoy this look at dating later in life. It’s funny and poignant and a really enjoyable listen. Highly recommend the audiobook!
White Knight by John H. Cunningham
Another fun Buck Reilly Adventure! Check out my full review here!
We Met in December by Rosie Curtis
An adorable seasonal read that follows 2 people in love that just can’t get it together for a whole year. Read my full review here!
Do You Mind If I Cancel by Gary Janetti
I read this based on a lot of reviews that promise “if you like David Sedaris, check out this guy – you’ll love him!” David Sedaris is my hands-down favorite. This guy doesn’t even come close. I felt a lot of anger from his writing and didn’t think it was all that funny. This was a fail for me.
The Witches are Coming by Lindy West
Speaking of anger… I went into this one totally blind. No idea who Lindy West is. Still not sure. She can be very funny – I appreciated her humor. But also – felt a bit like she was yelling at me a lot. This was just OK for me.
Unbelievable by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong
HEARTBREAKING. I had heard about this special on Netflix and wasn’t sure if I really wanted to go there. Long story short – it’s about rape. And how many women are not believed when they make the claim of being assaulted. The statistics are HORRIBLE. The stories are AWFUL. But I’m so glad I read it. And I’m looking forward to the Netflix special. A very important one.
Get a Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
Not my typical read but I actually really enjoyed it! The audio was silly and snarky and the banter between Chloe and Red was so fun! I think I need the steamy books to be silly and fun to enjoy them. Too much mush and I’m turned off. Feels like I’m reading something I shouldn’t be. But snark and sass and humor?? Count me in!
Holly Banks Full of Angst by Julie Valerie
Such a fun read. Like Stepford Wives meets Class Mom. These PTA moms are bonkers and Holly gets thrown right in when her daughter starts kindergarten and it is SO SILLY. I really enjoyed it.
Plastic by Frank Strasser
This cover is super creepy but this book is so fantastic! Check out my full review here!
Anyone by Charles Soule
Hands down one of my top 5 of the year. I never read sci fi or anything like this but when I was selected for Mystery Book Club on Instagram, I dove in and I never wanted to get out. The story is about “flashing” into other peoples bodies. It’s unique and fantastic and unlike anything I’ve ever read. A MUST read for sure!
The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell
This was a total creepfest and a fun one! A family is living large in a mansion when suddenly another family moves in they’ve given all their stuff away. And then half of them are dead. 25 years later answers come out that I never expected. It’s creepy and culty and was SO fun to read. The ending was a bit abrupt for my taste but the reading experience throughout was a good one!
